Junior Tour of Northern California Crowns Winners During Spring Series VIII Championship at Rooster Run Golf Club

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (June 5, 2025) – The 2024-2025 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) crowned champions during the Spring Series VIII Championship at Rooster Run Golf Club. 

Melody Liu and Richard Ding both win their respective flights during the Spring Series VIII Championship at Rooster Run Golf Club.

In the Boy’s Championship flight, Richard Ding makes it back to back wins on the Junior Tour for the 2024-2025 season. Richard posted successive rounds of 6-under par 66's to cap off a dominating weekend in Petaluma where he finished at 12-under par 132. Richard nearly checked off every box possible throughout the 36-hole event as he carded two eagles, nine birdies, and just one bogey to win the Boy's division by eight shots! Richard's victory at Spring Series VIII leaves him ranked at 2nd on the Boy's JTNC Player of the Year Standings, only 146 points behind the current leader Ben Friedman.

Runner-up was awarded to Enoch Shi at 4-under par after he carded rounds of 68-72, making a total of ten birdies as this is his first medal finish of the season. Third place subsequently was awarded to Cooper Westphal at 1-under par 143, Cooper has finished in a medal spot for the third time this season and is currently ranked 8th on the Boys Player of the Year standings. All three medal winners boast quite the resume as each of the top finishers have yet to start high school, be on the lookout for these young rising talents.

In the Girls’ Championship flight, Melody Liu is victorious after a playoff was needed versus Hayley Fong to capture her first winners medal of the 2024-2025 season! Melody started off the weekend with a less than ideal first round of 1-over 73, however there were signs of outstanding play as she carded four bridies. Melody's second round told a much different story where she turned in a score of 4-under 68 featuring five birdies, one bogey, and twelve pars. Melody is now currently ranked at 21st on the Girls Player of the Year standings as she looks to capitalize on her winning ways as we head into the final stretch of the season.

Second place was eventually awarded to Hayley Fong of Hayward after a gut wrenching playoff defeat to Melody Liu. Hayley produced some great golf throughout the 36-hole event where she carded rounds of 70 and 71 to finish at 3-under par 141, she picked up seven birdies to show for her efforts. Hayley has been one of the most consistent Girl's players on the Junior Tour this season finishing in the top-three on four separate occasions, she is currently ranked 10th on the Girl's Player of the Year standings. Third place went to Kelly Zhang after a card-off was needed to separate her and Stevie Umali as the pair were tied at 1-under par 143, ultimately the bronze medal went to Kelly Zhang as she carded the lower second round score of 73 compared to Umali's 75. Zhang carded a total of six birdies throughout the weekend and is currently ranked 7th on the Girls Player of the Year Standings.
